MEDIA ADVISORY, Aug. 26 /Christian Newswire/ -- Since flooding began in Pakistan in July 2010 the OM Pakistan team has been working tirelessly to feed families, provide tents, and to provide medical care for local communities. In addition, the team has partnered with local churches and other volunteers, getting food packages to waiting families.
Amidst high waters, with no electricity, complying with local regulations, and in the middle of monsoon season, the OM Pakistan team realized that they would have to deliver prepared meals to flood victims. The team recruited a local cook trained in preparing meals for large crowds and they have fed nearly 2,000 families and distributed everything from clean clothes to dry shoes to tents.
The response among Pakistani Muslims and Hindus to aid coming from Pakistani Christians has been mostly gracious and kind. While visiting an Islamic seminary, an OM team leader recalls, "We asked the chief Mullah if they needed food. They said they were very hungry and had not eaten in the last two days. We asked if they would like to take food from Christians. They said, 'We think you are better than our Muslim who is selling food with very high price.' They accepted food packets from our team and were very happy."
While delivering food to a hospital, the team was shocked by the number of people awaiting treatment. So a clinic was started for immediate needs including snakebites, fever, stomach ailments, and skin infections. The medical team has since delivered two babies.
The team has pleaded for more financial resources in order to purchase more critically needed food supplies. OM USA is raising money to purchase food and supplies for 3,000 more Pakistani families. A gift of $35 will feed a family of six for two weeks. Please visit: www.omusa.org and click on the "Pakistan Flood Relief" graphic to give or call 770-631-0432.
