WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 /Christian Newswire/ -- In a 59-38 vote, the Senate has confirmed Judge Leslie H. Southwick to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Senators on both sides of the aisle voted 62-35 to avert a filibuster and give Southwick the vote he deserved. Concerned Women for America (CWA) has repeatedly called for this honorable judge to be confirmed and is pleased that the Senate has finally seen the light.
CWA President Wendy Wright hailed the confirmation as a victory for all Americans. "Judge Southwick, well-qualified judge and Iraq war veteran, will be a welcome addition the Fifth Circuit. The American people are the winners today.
"While it is encouraging that, despite baseless attacks from liberal groups, a qualified and honorable person can be confirmed, it is troubling that a super-majority was needed for Senators to do the right thing. It is our sincere hope that the Senate will lay aside partisan politics when it comes to the confirmation of judicial nominees."
