CLAIR SHORES, Mich., Jan. 9, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- The New Year represents a time of new beginnings for many, but Catholic radio and TV host, Teresa Tomeo encourages people to look beyond 2014 and consider eternity. "So many of us, and that includes Christians, make New Year's resolutions based on emotions and feelings tied to temporal things," Tomeo said. "It's not that the resolution to save money, lose weight, or reduce the clutter in our lives, are bad ideas.  But is that where God wants us to focus our efforts and energies right now?"

In her new book, God's Bucket List: Heaven's Sure Fire Way to Happiness in This Life and Beyond, Tomeo stated Pope Francis' Epiphany homily reflected similar sentiments about the journey of the Magi of the East. Francis explained that the destiny of everyone is symbolized in this journey. "Our life is a journey, illuminated by the lights which brighten our way, to find the fullness of truth and of love which we Christians recognize in Jesus, the Light of the World," Pope Francis said.  

Whether in our resolutions or bucket lists, Tomeo said too many forget to include God on our journeys. "Many of us, as Pope Francis recently pointed out, fail to bring God into the picture," she said. "In the end, even if we have the best of intentions, our resolutions or bucket list items can pull us away from the only one who can truly give us the abundant life."
