Christian Newswire/ -- Bookstores dedicate entire sections to them; websites specialize in them; Amazon lists over 79,000 of them. We're talking about, not Romances, the latest courtroom thrillers, or best-selling fantasies, but self-help books. Why so many titles? We are struggling, searching and trying to get life right. We want answers and reminders that we aren't alone, something that makes us stop and say, "This writer just told my story! She gets it! I can trust this advice." It doesn't hurt if that advice comes with a dose of drama to keep us hooked and plenty of personal examples to show us that someone actually survived what we are currently living through.
"God's Word is the greatest self-help book ever!" says Bible teacher and new author Jerry Seright. A missionary kid who lived in Brazil for the first sixteen years of his life, he recognized from an early age, the need for God's grace. Later, as a preacher and Bible teacher he struggled to find a method for presenting the Gospel completely in a way that individuals would relate to. He found his tool in the book of Romans.
"I discovered in the sixteen chapters of Romans a dramatic presentation of the Gospel that tells the whole story, beginning with the state of man before Christ, going on to show the grace God made available to man, and, finally, giving witness of the reconciliation between God and man," Seright explains. "The whole story of the Roman Christians (or saints) is there, as well as your story and mine . . . "
The result was "Righteousness and Life from Grace," a presentation of the Gospel as taught by the Apostle Paul in the book of Romans. To Seright, the Gospel and the message of God's grace is complete in Romans.
"It has been said that 'If Romans ever gets you then God's got you!' That's why I chose the subject of God's grace: There is such a need for it!" His hope is that the message of Grace will lead readers to the true Source of it.
