Background
Rabbi Levin held a prayer service for rain on the steps of the Statehouse in Columbia, S.C. as reported in an A.P. story from Columbia. An A.P. photo graced page one of the Aiken Standard on Friday August 8, 1986. On page 2 of the Aiken Standard the following Tuesday, August 12 an article appears entitled "Meteorologists Suspect Drought May Be Over" which details the tremendous volumes of rain which fell in the previous days in Georgia, North Carolina, etc. "Heavy thunderstorms spanned the drought region on Monday, from Southeast Virginia to Florida's panhandle," the paper reported.
The Weather Warehouse.com site indicated that from August 1, 1986 through the seventh less than one fifth of an inch of rain fell, but from Friday August 8, 1986 through Monday, August 11 it rained every day for a total of 2 3/4 inches!
