ENUMCLAW, Wash., Feb. 4 /Christian Newswire/ -- With a presidential election looming on the horizon, American voters are carefully weighing the contenders' religious views--or lack of them.
Americans say it is important that candidates for public office have strong religious beliefs; 61 percent say they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who does not believe in God, according to "Religion in Campaign '08," a poll by the Pew Research Center.
Vicky Hartzler, a former three-time Missouri state representative, believes it's critical that Christians run for public office, whether that office be president of the United States or president of the local school board. "Our country needs more people with integrity serving in public office at all levels of government," she states.
In her new book, "Running God's Way" (Pleasant Word, 2008), Hartzler gleans from myriad campaign experiences to equip Christians who plan to run for public office. "Running God's Way unveils the proven campaign techniques revealed in God's Word and provides the common sense methods and winning strategies needed to succeed on Election Day," Hartzler says. "The Bible is the source of wisdom for every aspect of life including how to run for office."
In her book, Hartzler combines truths and inspiration from Scripture with insights gleaned from her years as a legislator and educator to show people how to conduct a successful campaign. She infuses her book with dozens of real-life stories and helpful examples so candidates will have everything they need to run for office including samples of volunteer forms, fundraising materials, campaign timelines, direct mail pieces, campaign literature and newspaper ads. She also explains how to write a campaign plan, develop issues, assemble a volunteer team, work with the media, and overcome negative tactics of the opposition.
When Hartzler ran for office, she didn't know whether it was God's will that she win. "I only knew I was supposed to run." She believes that when Christians choose to take the step of faith, they, too, will discover that God will supply the equipment and strategy they need to bring Him glory.
