WASHINGTON, Feb. 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- The first 120,000 copies of BothSides latest issue will be released in parts of Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. on February 25, 2007 and February 28, 2007. Over 700,000 copies will be distributed throughout the entire metropolitan area. As an annual insert to the Washington Post and a web-based magazine, it has become the largest secular-focused, faith-based magazine in the U.S.
In 1994, over 400,000 copies of BothSides Magazine were released in the Washington Times and Washington Post, in the DC metropolitan area. Bob Woodward, the Editor of the Washington Post stated that the Post received the greatest response from this insert than any in the history of the newspaper.
BothSides does not fit neatly into political categories. The first edition roundly criticized the legalization of same-sex marriages. The second edition took a close look at the Republican Party’s position on Affirmative Action and race relations in general. BothSides represents the best of what Dr. Grier calls the “Emerging African American Church,” which is not devoted to either political party but is committed to the principles of traditional family values, religious tolerance, and social justice.
Dr. Derek Grier, editor of BothSides Newsletter states, “More than any other single predictor, including race and economic class, the presence of both a mother and a father in the home is the single largest statistical determinant of whether a child will become part of the criminal justice system, earn a high school diploma, abuse an illegal substance or live in poverty. The central issue for my generation is no longer just the quest for equal rights but the fight for the family,”
Dr. Grier quotes The Journal of Research on Adolescents and states that boys raised outside of intact marriages are more than twice as likely as boys in a two-parent home to wind up in jail. Each year a boy spends without a dad, increases his future incarceration by 5%. Although, he celebrates the powerful role the single mother has played in raising children, he feels the trend toward single parenting is cause for alarm.
Bishop Harry Jackson of Hope Christian Church, in College Park, Maryland writes an informative article on how to develop trust in relationships. Several other prominent members of the clergy from the Washington, DC metropolitan area and across the country answer marital questions in the “Dear Pastor” section.
