ECFA Sets 4th Quarter Webinars
Year-end Giving, Receipting Among Online Forum Topics

WINCHESTER, Va., Sept. 12, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability) will host a trio of live, hour-long webinars in the fourth quarter of 2011 designed to enhance the financial health of churches and parachurch nonprofits.
 
Registration is open for these webinars, which will begin with "Effective Financial Communication for Churches and Nonprofits." The final webinars slated for the year are "5 Hot Topics for Church Business Administrators" and "Year-end Giving/Receipting Issues."
 
"These Internet information sessions are highly pertinent to the needs of churches and faith-based nonprofits as we close 2011 and enter the coming year," said Dan Busby, ECFA president. "Each webinar will present what these organizations' fiscal leaders need to know to maintain solid financial footing."
 
The online/telephone webinar "Effective Financial Communication for Churches and Nonprofits," featuring Gregg Capin and Richard Larkin, will be at 1 p.m. EDT Oct. 13. The session will highlight future trends, financial reporting standards for nonprofits, ways to make financial statements more understandable, and potential changes to financial reporting standards under consideration by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) nonprofit advisory committee.
 
Capin, a partner in the Atlanta office of CapinCrouse, has more than 30 years of experience managing accounting, audit and advisory services for a wide range of national and international nonprofits. Larkin is technical director for nonprofit accounting and auditing for the Institute for Nonprofit Excellence in the Washington, D.C., office of BDO USA, LLP.
 
The online/telephone webinar "5 Hot Topics for Church Business Administrators," co-sponsored by ECFA and Church Executive, will be at 1 p.m. EST Nov. 10. The event will feature Michael Biedermann, director of finance at Woodmen Valley Chapel, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Cindee Coffee, general counsel and public spokesperson for Southeast Christian Church, Louisville, Ky.; Nick Dusenbury, director of finance at Forest Hill Church, Charlotte, N.C.; and Busby.
 
"Year-end Giving/Receipting Issues," also an online/telephone event, will be at 1 p.m. EST Dec. 6 and will feature Michael Batts, managing shareholder of Batts Morrison Wales & Lee, P.A., John Van Drunen, vice president and legal counsel of ECFA, and Busby.
 
Batts, a licensed CPA in multiple states, has drafted several state statutes pertaining to nonprofits and served on the Legal Framework Workgroup of the Panel on the Nonprofit Sector, an advisory panel formed at the request of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee chairman. Van Drunen, CPA and attorney, is ECFA vice president and legal counsel.
 
Busby, a prolific author of books and booklets used by church and other nonprofit leaders, was honored in 2010 and 2011 by The Nonprofit Times, which named him to the "Nonprofit Times Power & Influence Top 50."
 
Continuing education credits are available through the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) and the National Association of Church Business Administration (NACBA).

Registration for the webinars is free for ECFA members. For registered users the forums are $39. A recording of each webinar will be available following the session through the ECFA website at no cost for ECFA members and $29 for nonmembers.
