Lutheran Theologian C.F.W. Walther Celebrated in Distinctive Victor Huster Art-Medal
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 26, 2011 /
Christian Newswire/ -- The International Association of Reformation Coins and Medals (IARCM) in partnership with internationally renowned medallist Victor Huster is excited to announce a limited edition commemorative medal celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of one of the most influential Lutheran theologians in North America: C.F.W. Walther (October 25th, 1811 – May 7th, 1887), best known for his contributions to properly understanding the two major motifs of the Christian Scriptures: Law and Gospel. The obverse legend of the medal is a quote from his best-known book "The Proper Distinction Between Law and Gospel."
The reverse of the medal connects Walther's Christian teachings with the great reformer Martin Luther (November 10th, 1483 – February 18th, 1546). The reverse legends are related quotes from Lutheran confessional documents (Article IV of the Apology of the Augsburg Confession) and Saint Paul's Epistle to the Romans (3:28).
"Hidden" in the legend surrounding Walther's portrait is a natural chronogram for the year of Walther's birth: MDCCCXI = 1811. Walther and Luther's birth and death dates are also included on each side of the portraits (months depicted in Roman numerals).
These 34.5mm diameter (1.36 inch), 28.3 gram (0.998 ounce) highest-quality commemorative medals are struck in tombac (a golden colored copper - zinc alloy), individually numbered out of an edition of 100, and placed in a special padded presentation/gift box. Each medal includes a detailed explanation of the design and a signed certificate of authenticity.
Prices for these limited edition, hand-crafted Walther-Luther medals: USD$49.00 (€39,00 + 19% VAT for customers in Europe), plus the cost of shipping.
