MEMPHIS, Tenn., November 1 /Christian Newswire/ -- Mrs. Vivian Berryhill will be a distinguished keynote speaker at the 2007 Global Summit on AIDS and the Church, at Saddleback Church, in Lake Forest, California. Berryhill, is founder and president of the National Coalition of Pastors' Spouses (NCPS), a 2500+ nonpartisan, nonprofit, multi-denominational network of clergy spouses whose mission is to raise health awareness in communities of color.
Mrs. Berryhill recently addressed 150 of the top African American faith leaders, scholars, elected officials, government and health agents at a two-day HIV/AIDS conclave in New York. Using the momentum from that historic speech, she hopes to further raise awareness on the scourge of HIV/AIDS and the impact it's having on women, particularly in America and around the globe. She plans to challenge "women to lead the world to care" during her speech at the Saddleback Conference.
"On the heels of participating at the summit of Black clergy, where the 'ABC plus+ D' message from our nationally recognized HIV/AIDS: A Manual for Faith Communities was accepted by all of those in attendance, I'm energized and looking forward to teaming up with Kay Warren at Saddleback's upcoming Global Summit on AIDS and the Church," Berryhill said.
"To be asked to convey the Abstinence, Be faithful, Condom use if you don't know your partner's status and, Don't practice risky behaviors message to two culturally diverse communities within a month's time are invitations that I don't take lightly. I'm real clear that serving as a catalyst to faith communities and encouraging Black, white, rich, poor, mega and small church women to join forces to defeat this Goliath, known as AIDS, is my assignment," Berryhill added.
Other noted speakers to the conference include: Her Excellency Maureen Mwanawasa, 1st Lady of Zambia, President of the Organization of African American First Ladies; Her Excellency Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, 1st Lady of Rawanda, Co-founder of the Organization of African American First Ladies; Dr. Peter Piot, Executive Director, UN AIDS and Undersecretary-General of the United Nations; and Ambassador Mark Dybul, United States Global AIDS Coordinator.
The Global Summit on AIDS and the Church will be held November 28-30, 2007.
