ENUMCLAW, Wash., Aug. 21 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Bible is the best-selling book of all time, with more than 6 billion copies of the King James Version sold since its release in 1611.
Jamaican Milton Maye--songwriter, poet, and accountant--decided to infuse the Bible with a unique contemporary flair. In "The People's Proverbs Bible," Maye communicates God's Word through the language of the heart: poetry.
In his translation of the familiar Psalm 23, Maye introduces the chapter's theme, asking, "Who is your Shepherd? Can he fill your heart?"
In rhythmic, poetic prose, he continues:
"The Lord is my Shepherd,
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside the still waters;
When I’m tattered and cold
And the world has taken a toll
He restores my soul..."
"...His 'surely goodness and mercy' blessing
Shall follow me all of my days,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever and for always."
Maye purchased his first Bible at age 16, when he left his Hanover, Jamaica, home to make his way in the world. A pastor's son and self-described "rebel," Milton read the Bible cover-to-cover three times, attempting to decipher God's truth for himself. In 1991, during his third read-through, he committed his life to Christ.
Maye immediately jumped into ministry, buying Bibles in batches, distributing them, challenging people to read the Bible in its entirety, and praying that God would reveal Himself to the Bible's recipient.
He went on to study at the Caribbean Christ for the Nations Bible Institute in Montego Bay, where he received a certificate in Biblical Studies.
"The People's Proverbs Bible", which Maye says is "written to the beat of the heart," includes the books of Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, The Song of Solomon, Job, Esther, and selected chapters from every other book in the Bible.
His song-based approach engages teens, musicians, and all who love language, from first-time Bible readers to ardent scholars, says Maye. "It is my desire that readers will be inspired to take a walk through the Bible and to discover its life-changing truths."
