As Florida voters go to the polls on Tuesday, Christians have an important role to play.

LAKELAND, Florida, Jan. 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- "Amid the confusion and fractured support that seems to be present, values voters need to exert their influence," said The National Clergy Council's senior fellow for public policy, the Rev. Dr. Charles Nestor, a resident of Lakeland, Florida.
Nestor went on to call upon this vital constituency to exercise their Christian stewardship by making sure to participate in the primary. "Christians have an obligation to be salt and light in the world. There is no place this is more important than selecting leaders. Those who aspire to office must have a clear set of values compatible with Biblical faith, but this will have no influence on the society if they don't have the means and the proven ability to be elected," Nestor said.
Nestor went on to say a strong personal witness is important but other factors must also be considered in picking a winner.
"Some candidates only get religion at election time," said the former pastor. "There are several in the line-up who have no previous active faith commitment. Others have proven track records of vibrant religious life. Having a personal witness of faith is important, to be sure, but it must be coupled by consistency in ones private life, and the ability to translate this into a broad appeal. Votes based solely on a candidate's particular theology can be wasted, if that candidate is unelectable. In then end, values informed by faith and an agenda that is achievable are both important."
Nestor concluded this could only happen if the candidate is elected and takes the oath of office a year from now.
