ENUMCLAW, Wash., Aug. 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- Sunday school children sing about him. Children's books picture him up a very large tree. Scripture allocates him select lines. Preachers sermonize about him. Now Mac McConnell is giving us a fresh and totally unique look behind the scenes at a man named Zacchaeus. Mac McConnell is a dramatist, script writer, drama instructor and director and a master storyteller. Here's how he describes his book Forever Changed:
Forever Changed is a surprising journey in Jericho by a little man who has fallen short of his goals only to settle for wine, women or whatever his money could purchase, hoping to make himself feel more powerful, more in control, or just not so small. The main character earnestly tried religion, even considered it as a career, but was betrayed by his mentor and model of holiness. He then just steps into his father's shoes and the path of rejection and contempt. . . .Zacchaeus manages to gain a fortune, but lose respect and any hope of leaving a worthwhile reputation in the process. As a life on a collision course with next to nothing, it would take something or someone unexpected to even get his attention.
Mac McConnell says, "It's too easy to forget that the characters of the Bible had real lives, like us, complex, with heartaches, joys, shortcomings, or just a bad day. . . ."
"This long-gone, often-made-fun-of little man has much to tell us," says McConnell. He knows there is more than one way to tell a story and demonstrate a message, saying, "With just a little imagination, characters long gone can speak to us loud and clear."
The climax in Forever Changed, of course, pivots on Yeshua (Jesus) passing by. Mac McConnell says one day in a little church Yeshua passed by his life. He said he accepted Christ that day. "My heart was renewed, my marriage restored, and my life changed, forever." McConnell now spreads the "good news" dramatically in his one-man biblical dramas he has presented in the U. S., Israel, the Ukraine, Scotland, and Greece in churches, schools, prisons, youth camps, retreats and conferences. Mac McConnell and his wife, Linda, have lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for 30 years.
