MEDIA ADVISORY, Feb. 11, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Minnesota Child Protection League has launched a campaign to empower and equip parents, teens, and all adults to speak up about 50 Shades of Grey, a film being released Valentine's Day weekend. The film glorifies emotional and sexual abuse as 'love' and invites viewers to explore dangerous, violent, manipulative perversions.

"Sexual violence is never okay, and 'consent' doesn't change that," stated MnCPL President Renée Doyle. "The film seductively blurs the lines between what is healthy and what is destructive, what is right and what is wrong. 50 Shades mainstreams the sexual abuse of women and girls, selling it as erotic, and it does harm to both men and women. The truth is, there is no 'grey' area here."

The MnCPL 50ShadesThePledge.com campaign is a unique approach that gives parents resources for solutions, real protection that their children need. MnCPL believes that the movie presents an opportunity to have a most important conversation with young people about their dignity and worth, and it offers them an opportunity to sign a pledge of protecting their own dignity and the dignity and safety of others.

According the MnCPL, by providing a Tool Kit, including a Fact Sheet; a Resources page; a Parent Guide to help talk to your kids; and information about the effects of pornography on the developing human brain, parents can be the first line of defense. Also included is The Pledge, that can be signed online, shared, posted, and used as talking points with teens, family members and other adults.

"Just as when we prepare in advance of a deadly hurricane, it is our responsibility to become informed and know that this film may be a cultural buzz but it has a poison effect," said Doyle. "We need to be ready to talk about it. Nothing that romanticizes bondage, humiliation, and pain will turn out well."
