FARGO, N.D., June 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- After 18 years evangelizing and church planting in the former Soviet Union, averaging over 100 crusades per year, Missionary Evangelist Peter Mehl has added another 50 crusades per year to his schedule. The focus is to hold crusades in every town in North Dakota in the next five years.
Since launching this five year initiative, named North Dakota Ablaze, at the end of 2009 almost 2,000 people have made decisions to follow Jesus Christ. The most recent was June 6 when evangelist Mehl preached at the 100 year anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America on the capitol lawn in Bismarck, ND. During this event Mr. Mehl did feats of strength, a big draw for youth, including a 1,000 pound lift. The results were over 1,500 decisions for Christ.
In 1993, Peter Mehl and his wife, Jill, walked away from a successful business to serve God on foreign soil. Since then churches have been pioneered in every state of Ukraine plus the Russian Far East, China and now Moldova. Evangelist Mehl now senses an urgency to also focus on his homeland. In his words "America desperately needs Jesus."
While holding evangelistic crusades in each town the ministry will also conduct feats of strength in schools along with motivational speeches. Mr. Mehl holds world records in power lifting and uses this ability to open doors into schools and as a draw to get youth to his outreaches. He is also raising up others to hold crusades in his absence.
"My desire," says Mr. Mehl "is to train up an army of teams that will constantly be on the move evangelizing every town in the state multiple times. North Dakota has a place in the end times but the first step is to get the Gospel to the people and in the process revival will come. It's time that we do more than just pray about it."
Peter Mehl is also president and founder of Russian Harvest Ministries which has evangelized over 1,500 villages in Ukraine. He has also pioneered missionary training centers, Bible schools, and drug rehab centers. This same pattern is what Evangelist Mehl desires to launch in North Dakota.
