PORTLAND, Ore., March 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- In anticipation of the new translation of the Roman Missal, OCP has chosen five new and four revised Mass settings for initial publication. After several years of close collaboration with a variety of composers, the following new settings have been selected:
• Mass of Christ the Savior by Dan Schutte
• Mass of Renewal by Curtis Stephan
• Mass of St. Paul the Apostle by Christopher Walker
• Mass of the Resurrection by Randall DeBruyn
• Misa Santa Cecilia/Mass of St. Cecilia by Estela García-López and Rodolfo López
Based on customer research and review the following revisions of previously published Mass settings will be included in the OCP hymnal supplement and certain missal products:
• Celtic Mass by Christopher Walker
• Heritage Mass by Owen Alstott
• Mass of Glory by Ken Canedo and Bob Hurd
• Misa del Pueblo Inmigrante/Mass of the Immigrants by Bob Hurd
"Our composers have crafted a wide range of inspiring melodies to engage the faithful in singing these new texts," said Tom Tomaszek, OCP's Director of Artists and Repertoire. "Parish musicians have provided helpful feedback and review of these selections, giving us confidence that these are ready-to-use Masses for the time of implementation."
Details on each of the settings are available on OCP's new Roman Missal online resource page: http://OCP.org/NewMassSettings. This web page was developed to answer concerns church leaders may have regarding the implementation of the new Roman Missal. Visitors to the page will find what they need conveniently located in one place: practical resources, catechetical articles related to the new translation, links to useful websites, frequently asked questions and more.
"We continue to work with composers," Tomaszek explained. "Additional new and revised Mass settings will be posted and made available for review on OCP.org/NewMassSettings. We hope this site will become a place where pastoral musicians regularly preview demo recordings, download Masses and test settings which correspond to their local parish needs."
Because the page will be updated as new information and resources become available, visitors are encouraged to bookmark the address -- OCP.org/NewMassSettings -- and check back regularly.
