More Than 250 East Texas Churches Join Together to Help Tackle Some of the Greatest Needs of the Community; Plan Town Hall Event for April 30 to Discuss Specific Focus Areas

Christian Newswire/ -- Hundreds of churches and non-profit organizations from throughout East Texas have come together for a massive movement focused on prayer, service, and sharing of the Good News of Jesus Christ. As part of this major, overarching campaign -- which has come to be known as CityFest East Texas with Andrew Palau -- church and city leaders are also preparing to launch CityServe, a specific effort focused on meeting key socio-economic needs within our community.
CityServe East Texas, which launches this week, is focused on unifying hundreds of pastors and ministry leaders, along with key individuals from the civic, marketplace, and education sectors. The hope for CityServe East Texas is to not only identify specific needs within the community but actively recruit hundreds of churches and thousands of individuals to set aside their differences and take a unified role in fighting against these major issues.
This effort, which has been in the planning stages for several months, will officially launch on Tuesday, April 30, at Rose Heights Church (2120 Old Omen Road in Tyler) at 7 p.m. Hundreds of individuals are expected to attend the town hall style event, hearing from several East Texas leaders and taking part in an open discussion about specific needs and potential projects. Leaders involved in the meeting will include Doug Clark (Senior Pastor of Grace Community Church) and Dr. Mike Tidwell (CityFest Co-Chair), as well as the chairmen for CityServe, Jason Smith, Carlton Oby, and Stephen Wickliffe. The gathering will also include a special proclamation from the mayor of Tyler, Martin Heines.
Specific initiatives, to be finalized at the launch event on April 30, will most likely include efforts to end homelessness, bring greater racial reconciliation, offer greater support to the foster care system, and stop sex exploitation.
All are welcome to attend the town hall event, including media. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. An interpreter for the deaf will be provided as well.
About CityServe East Texas: CityServe East Texas is part of a larger effort known as CityFest East Texas with Andrew Palau. It is being produced by more than 250 local area churches with the support of the Oregon-based Luis Palau Association.
