ENUMCLAW, Washington, April 30 /Christian Newswire/ -- One out of every three women has experienced sexual abuse. "Any time a person is coerced against their will into engaging in any type of sexual activity, that is abuse," says Nancy Alcorn, who has over 25 years of experience working with young women who have suffered sexual abuse.

"Sexual abuse is a horrifying part of many women's reality, but it does not have to define who they are," says Alcorn, whose faith-based nonprofit organization has positively impacted the lives of thousands of troubled young women. "God wants to bring healing and wholeness to women who have been abused so they can live an abundant life and not simply survive from one day to the next."

Alcorn encourages victims of sexual abuse to stop masking their torment and speak up. "Exposing the secret of abuse is the beginning of the journey to healing," she says.

Alcorn's new book, "Violated: Mercy for Sexual Abuse"—the latest in her "Mercy For…" series—walks women through how to find freedom from the effects of sexual abuse. Alcorn writes:

"Exposing the secret of abuse is the beginning of the journey to healing. You have a choice to blame God for your pain and turn your back on Him, or to trust the only one who has the ability to heal your heart and set you free from the shame of being sexually abused… As you understand your true value in Christ, you will be able to break free from the bondage of sexual abuse."

Alcorn's book includes testimonies from young women who once had no hope but who now live with joy and freedom. A special section for parents, counselors, and pastors advises them how to care for someone who seeks healing from sexual abuse.

"I want girls to know they can be set free from the pain that comes from being sexually abused," says Alcorn. "Through applying the principles in this book and the truth from God's word to their everyday lives, their thought processes will be changed and they will discover real and lasting freedom. God will help them put the shattered pieces of their heart back together."
