SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., Jan.19, 2015 /
Christian Newswire/ -- Three Worldwide Marriage Encounter (WWME) leadership couples, including one from North America, one from Europe and the International Leadership Couple along with a WWME priest will be participating this week at the International Conference of Movements, Groups and Associations on Family and Life at a special Vatican meeting entitled "The Vocation and Mission of the Family in the Church and Contemporary World."
The three-day conference, which is part of the overall "A Journey Towards the XIV General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops," will be held in Rome.
"What an honor and privilege to have three Worldwide Marriage Encounter couples and a priest invited to participate in this conference where the Vatican is seeking our input on issues that are affecting families and the church in today's world," said Scott & Karen Seaborn, the WWME North American Ecclesial Team.
The other WWME couples participating are the WWME International Ecclesial Team Daniel & Shelley Ee and the WWME European Ecclesial Team Tó & Luisa Carvalho. They will be joined by Fr. Jude Nicholas Fernando, who serves as the Asian Ecclesial Priest for WWME.
The conference begins this Thursday, January 22, and runs through Saturday evening. The focus of the discussions center around the challenges families face in today's world along with looking at how Christ through the gospel addresses family issues and lastly a pastoral perspective on this topic.
The results from the conference will help shape the focus that the 14th General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops will look at when they meet later this year.
Worldwide Marriage Encounter has been offering weekend experiences for over 46 years and is considered the original faith-based marriage enrichment program. The programs are continually updated to keep abreast of changes in society, and WWME now offers evening and half-day programs that are presented at parishes and other church facilities. The weekend program, traditionally presented as an overnight experience at a hotel or retreat center, can also be presented at the parish where the couples return to their homes in the evenings. WWME has a presence in just under 100 countries, which makes it the largest pro-marriage movement in the world. In North America, the WWME programs are presented in English, Spanish, French, and Korean languages.
Worldwide Marriage Encounter offers married couples the opportunity to spend time together away from the busyness of the world to focus on each other. It offers tools for building and maintaining a strong, Christian marriage in today's world.
