CONCORD, Va., Oct. 30, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Gleaning For The World, an international humanitarian aid organization based in central Virginia, is initiating a swift response to aid those impacted by Super Storm Sandy along the Eastern United States.
The storm, which is one of the worst to hit the coast in a century, had its greatest impact Monday night, but will continue to cause damage through Tuesday. The storm caused a life-threatening storm surge with almost 8 million homes still without power, flooding rainfall, downed trees and heavy snow in the central and southern Appalachians.
Gleaning For The World is immediately sending over 100,000 pounds of supplies to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. The supplies include non-perishables, water bottles, blankets and snacks.
"With such a monster storm late in the season, it is imperative we continue receiving monetary donations to meet this humanitarian need," says Ron Davidson, founder of GFTW. "This economic climate has made it extremely challenging to procure products and secure funds for shipping. Millions of people are likely to feel the effects of the storm, and we want to do our best to relieve as much suffering as we can."
