HOMESTEAD, FL, Mar. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Longtime IndyCar race driver Davey Hamilton, Wagner Racing and Kingdom Racing participated in the first Firestone Indy Lights test of the year at Homestead Speedway last week under the Kingdom Racing banner. The Team's goal is to run at the front in this IndyCar training series while working with national Christian ministries to reach 1,000,000 men for Jesus Christ. The team will feature rookie driver Brandon Wagner.
"This is an exciting day for everyone involved," said IndyCar driver and Kingdom Racing partner Davey Hamilton. "Wagner Racing has a history of success in the USAC ranks and has a very strong operational infrastructure; and Kingdom Racing has built a unique platform and organizational structure that has positioned this team for growth over the next few years."
Kingdom Racing was originally formed by Houston businessman George Del Canto with a distinct mission: Deliver God's Word through Motor Sports. It first entered the IndyCar scene last year when it supported Davey Hamilton's effort during the 2008 Indianapolis 500. Since last year's Indianapolis 500, Del Canto has been working towards expanding the team platform with an ultimate goal of competing full-time in the IndyCar series.
Said Del Canto, "Having worked with Davey over the last year and having had the opportunity to get to know Brandon and the entire Wagner Racing Team management and personnel, I am excited to roll all our experiences and assets under one purpose driven mission to deliver a worthy program for this season."
Kingdom Racing plans to compete in the entire fifteen races of the 2009 Indy Lights season with at least one entry. The team has hired longtime IndyCar mechanic Sean Birmingham to serve as its team manager and veteran IndyCar engineer Darrell Soppe to serve as the team's engineer. The team is based in Lafayette, Indiana. For more information, please visit www.kingdomracing.net.
