African-American Woman Cranks Up 27-Year Niche

Contact: Diane McKoy, Diane McKoy & A Small Few, 212-721-6535

NEW YORK, April 16 /Christian Newswire/ -- Founding and fronting a Country Music band as an African-American is unusual enough, even more so, a BLUEGRASS Gospel band in New York City! But that is what Diane McKoy is doing.

McKoy has been active in Country/Bluegrass Music since 1980. Many consider her previous band New York City's first and only Bluegrass Gospel band.

Now McKoy is launching a newly embodied acoustic Gospel trio called "Diane McKoy and A Small Few". It features McKoy and two musician/singer friends; Steven Antonelli and Daniel Marcus.

Diane McKoy states, "Yes, I'm heavily into singing Bluegrass Gospel, and Country Gospel with old time fervor. It's what God put in me. Gospel Music has been the bedrock of my musical journey. My Christian faith has kept me grounded and is my source of resilience and preservation. God put in my heart 'a small few' in the late 1990's."

"After one of our concerts, a lady commented to me that we should never call ourselves 'a small few' because it's a 'great three'! That was quite encouraging," McKoy continues.

Diane McKoy's latest Americana Gospel single on Canadian-American Records is released in France and UK, entitled 'Are You Going There Too'. It's a Ben Freed Production! "Ben plays banjo, dobro, bass, and guitar on this dynamic tune. He opted for me to sing it," says Diane. "Michelle Nixon is the talented writer of the tune."

McKoy has covered Traditional Gospel, R&B, Choral Blues, Rock, Country, and Bluegrass Gospel as a singer and writer. McKoy recorded on Scepter/Hob Records and Columbia/Epic.
