NEW YORK, Sept. 9 /Christian Newswire/ -- Over half a year has passed since Archbishop Timothy Dolan stood in the ruins of Port au Prince. Two million people were homeless and over 300,000 were dead. In the midst of that devastation, he made two promises to the Haitian people: he would be back and he would not let the world forget them. Recently he kept those promises, returning to the island to observe the progress of the recovery. Odyssey Networks' "Faith in Action: Haiti" a series of reports on his four-day visit and the hope he found in some very unexpected circumstances. This report, the third in the series, can be viewed, along with the first and second, at www.odysseynetworks.org.

After inspecting the recovery process at orphanages and hospitals, Archbishop Dolan arrived at the ruins of Haiti's once-magnificent National Cathedral, a building whose spires once served as beacons guiding ships into the harbor of Port au Prince. Standing before the broken walls, Dolan recalled the funeral of Haiti's Archbishop Joseph Serge Miot, who was killed in the quake. That was just nine days after the disaster and the streets and collapsed buildings were still filled with the dead and dying. In the midst of that tragedy, Dolan said he looked up at the huge cross, still standing intact by the Cathedral, and a thought came to him.

"I'm hearing people crying. I'm hearing people moaning....You're tempted to say where is God in all of this? And I said to myself, 'He is here. This is Good Friday, this is Calvary. This is Jesus again on his cross, suffering with and for his people. And what will come from this is rebirth, renewal, rebuilding.' And indeed it is."

"Faith in Action" is a new online news concept dedicated to telling the stories of people whose work is changing the world. The Haiti series will continue through September 14.
