Christian Newswire/ -- Sarah Kay Bierle's newest book, "With Gladness: A Christmas Story Collection" entertains and inspires individuals and families as it features holidays in America's past.
Bierle's book, released earlier in November, highlights the theme "Christmas comes in every year in every era, reminding us to hope, trust, and have faith." Published as historical fiction, Bierle describes her stories as "tales in which the main characters are fictional, but are surrounded by and interacting with real historical figures, settings, and events in a way that accurately reflects the societal norms of the era."
As a historian, Bierle works to achieve historical accuracy in her stories. She explains her idea for this Christmas collection, "I've always wanted to read stories about Christmas in different eras of American history. There's something so special about the holiday season, the traditions, and the historical events which occurred in December. When I couldn't find the book I wanted to read, I decided I had to write it." Her new book introduces ten different historical eras: Colonial, Revolutionary War, Trail of Tears, California Ranchos, Civil War, Gilded Age, The Dust Bowl, World War II, Vietnam Conflict, and Modern Era.
Sarah Kay Bierle is a historian, writer, and assistant blog editor for Emerging Civil War. Her first book, "Blue, Gray & Crimson" was published in July 2015 and won an award for Young Adult Fiction. Bierle was homeschooled from kindergarten through high school, completed an accelerated distance learning program for college, and graduated from Thomas Edison State University with a BA in History.
When asked what inspired "With Gladness," Bierle responded, "the search for Christmas meaning as people in every era have tried to reconcile their struggles with a message of joy and peace. It's an easy-to-read, inspirational book. I hope readers will connect with the characters and conflicts to find their own Christmas happiness."
