MEDIA ADVISORY, May 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- For Mother's Day, many people like to give gifts that keep on giving, so they sign Mom up for the "Fruit of the Month" Club. This year, instead of saddling Mom with more peaches and pears then she can handle, there's a new book that specifically addresses all of her health concerns called The Great Physician's Rx for Women's Health.(Thomas Nelson Publishers)
Whether Mom wants to know more about preventing arthritis, having a healthy heart, common foods to help ward off breast cancer, how to prepare healthy meals for her family, or natural ways to combat hormonal problems, these tips and many more valuable health insights are included in this informative book by New York Times best selling author Jordan Rubin with co-authors Nicki Rubin and Dr. Pancheta Wilson.
"I encouraged my husband to write this book with me because he realized there are many health issues unique to women that should addressed," said Nicki Rubin. "We wrote it for anyone who has a mother, a daughter, a sister or a friend who can benefit from the natural health advice in this book. It's also great because as mothers, one of the most important things we can do is to leave a health legacy for our children."
One of the most important things Rubin stresses is teaching children to establish good eating habits, which begins with feeding them the right foods at birth until adulthood. Making healthy, nutritious foods and snacks and teaching children early on that junk foods are not good for their bodies will provide a foundation for excellent health, according to Rubin.
"Kids model what their parents are eating and will naturally want to eat the same foods," she said. "I was so proud of my three-year-old son, Joshua, when I picked him up from a play date recently and he announced that crackers were 'yukky.' He knew this wasn't a snack we'd be eating at home!"
Other tips from the book include:
- Rubin believes one of the most important supplements for women is Omega 3 fatty acids. Taken every day, Omega 3's provide great protection for the heart, bones, and also help to promote healthy hair, skin and nails.
- Eliminate all artificial sweeteners. "When I was younger, I had no idea that these innocent looking pink, blue and yellow packets were the equivalent of putting toxic waste into my body," said Rubin. "Today I use honey as my main sweetener and have passed this advice on to a lot of my best women friends who have noticed a big difference in how they feel when they stop using artificial sweeteners."
- Chocolate really is a girl's best friend, and as long as you eat dark, organic chocolate, there's no reason to feel guilty about indulging. Although many chocolates have empty calories and very little nutritional value, organic chocolate is high in antioxidants and releases endorphins and serotonin, which both act as antidepressants.
