ENUMCLAW, Wash., Jan. 7 /Christian Newswire/ -- With the influx of soldiers returning from war-torn countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is on the rise. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, roughly thirty percent of these soldiers can expect to experience PTSD sometime in their lifetime.
In order to combat this and other ramifications of wartime service, The Minnesota National Guard recently implemented a program designed to help soldiers reintegrate into civilian life. The program offers services such as marital counseling, financial and legal advice, as well as explanation of military benefits.
Besides offering tangible assistance to returning troops, the program, called Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, acknowledges the universality of wartime stress on soldiers and their families, both before and after their military deployment.
New author and retired Air Force Major Kevin Stroud recognizes the need for help and for hope for returning soldiers. After spending twenty-four years serving in the United States armed forces, Stroud and his family experienced firsthand the stress that accompanies military life.
