ANAHEIM, July 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- “We are asking all loyal Catholics to visit our Website at www.crcoa.com right away and sign our online petition in defense of a good priest who has been unfairly silenced,” said Kenneth M. Fisher, founder and chairman of Concerned Roman Catholics of America, Inc.
Fisher said his group, which backs orthodox Catholic teaching and practices and opposes attempts to undermine them, activated the online petition to back Fr. Robert Altier of the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis. Earlier this year, Archbishop Harry Flynn made the priest remove from a lay-run Website his commentaries against the archdiocese’s mandatory “child safety” program, which many Catholic parents say molests their children’s innocence in the name of warning them about sex abuse.
“Also,” said Fisher, “in a sermon last October Fr. Altier brought up the rights of parents as the primary educators and protectors of their children. These are rights that the Church has always affirmed as God-given and never to be infringed by anyone. So our defense of Fr. Altier is also a wider defense of the Church’s inviolable teachings.”
Fisher said Archbishop Flynn has removed Fr. Altier from his duties at St. Agnes Parish and made him assistant to an elderly priest at a rest home. The archbishop, said Fisher, also reassigned clergy defenders of Fr. Altier, including St. Agnes’s longtime pastor and another priest who spoke up.
“Archbishop Flynn has punished these good priests but left other priests free to contradict the Church’s teachings,” said Fisher. “We are asking that he rescind his order that silenced Fr. Altier, especially now that more priests have spoken out against the immoral and indefensible ‘child safety’ program, and even more so now that the Archdiocese has made the program optional!”
Fisher wants signers of the online petition to know that his group plans to take copies to the Vatican’s Apostolic Delegate in Washington, D.C., and to the Vatican itself.
He said that everyone who wants to sign the petition in support of Fr. Altier can do so by simply going to www.crcoa.com and following the easy instructions there.
“Loyal Catholics,” added Fisher, “may also obtain from us written copies of the petition that they can circulate themselves and then return to us for tallying. Just mail them back to us at: CRCOA, P.O. Box 8095, Anaheim, CA 92812-8095.”
Concerned Roman Catholics of America, Inc. (CRCOA) is a lay organization, with many religious members, that is dedicated to promoting orthodox Catholic teaching and fighting heterodoxy and corruption within Religious Education Congresses, retreats, the Catholic education establishment, and the Catholic hierarchy.
Our organization concerns itself with anything or anyone whose teaching is contrary to the Magisterium (teaching authority) of the Roman Catholic Church and the Papacy, especially as it is associated with the American laity and clergy.
Our purpose is to watch and guard against false teachings, half-truths, and bad example, among the laity and the clergy. We alert the faithful through the written and spoken word as well as through good example by our peaceful and prayerful rallies and demonstrations.
