KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 27, 2020 /Christian Newswire/ -- Global Sisters Report (GSR), a project of National Catholic Reporter Publishing Company that gives greater voice to Catholic sisters around the globe, debuts a feature on GSR's website highlighting our coverage and the connection to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This Feature Series Collection showcases each SDG with links to our coverage and sisters' columns that illustrate how their ministries and missions parallel the SDGs. You can view the collection here: GlobalSistersReport.org/SDGs.
The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. The United Nations calls its 17 SDGs "the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all." With a target of achieving them by 2030, the goals are all interconnected and address the global challenges we face. Catholic sisters are increasingly recognizing how their ministries align with the SDGs, with the support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation Catholic Sisters Initiative and other organizations. (The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation also is a major funder of Global Sisters Report.)
Through this new Feature Series Collection, readers can now see how sisters' ministries written about in GSR contribute to the attainment of each of the goals. While not each article or column will specifically mention the SDGs, the ministry relates to the goal.
The project launched with about 200 articles and columns. That number will grow as we continue to add archival stories and future GSR articles and columns are added to the collection.
"We're excited about this new feature as a way of elevating the missions and ministries of Catholic sisters," said Gail DeGeorge, editor. "It also helps to fulfill our mission at Global Sisters Report to be a 'dynamic online community that reports on and gives voice to women religious around the world.'"
Global Sisters Report is an independent, non-profit source of news and information about Catholic sisters and the critical issues facing the people they serve. Our network of journalists write about their missions and ministries, and sisters contribute columns on a variety of topics including spirituality and religious life.
