CHAMPAIGN, Ill., May 1, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- For $50 each, in 2013, 2014, and 2015, 100 million Christians in the U.S. could provide enough money to stop 2.9 million children under age 5 from dying around the world. The solutions are available. This additional money can get the solutions to the children in Jesus' name through established church structures.

Your feedback can help identify the church leader(s) who could mobilize a movement to encourage Christians to donate this money to the many established church structures. These church structures can then expand their work to help more children around the globe.

But they're not operating at a scale to meet the whole need. Too many children are still dying. We don't have to feel overwhelmed by that fact. Instead, we can get organized. Fact 1: There are an estimated 150 million members of historically Christian churches in the U.S. Belonging to a church is one of the larger identity groups in America, if not the largest.

Fact 2: Church members' congregations have connections to international mission channels already in place that are helping children. These channels of the institutional church in its various forms are underfunded and under-supported.

Fact 3: If 100 million Christians in the U.S. wanted to reduce the number of children who are under age 5 who are dying each day from preventable causes, they could. They could do it by giving $50 through their own trusted church structures to help the children.

Fact 4: A gift of $50 a year from each of 100 million church members would provide the amount needed to reduce these child deaths by as many as 2.9 million.

Fact 5: At $50 per Christian, almost any church member in the U.S. could afford to help, if he or she wanted to do so.

Fact 6: The causes of under-5 child deaths are known for the 74 countries where 96 percent of these deaths occur. Low-cost treatment remedies are available to prevent many of these deaths.

Fact 7: Most of the world's governments have said it would be good to reduce the rate of child deaths by 2015. However, these government efforts are behind schedule and evidence suggests that their goal will not be met at the current rate of progress.

Fact 8: Jesus Christ paid special attention to children (Matthew 19:14, Mark 9:37, Matthew 18:10). Jesus spoke to his disciples as the people who should do God's will on earth. Today's church members are Jesus' disciples.

Fact 9: There are 13 countries making no progress on reducing the number of children under age five who are dying in those nations. In nine of these countries, an average of 83 percent of the population identifies as Christian. The apostle Paul wrote, "Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers," (Galatians 6:10). We should help all children, including those whose parents claim the name of Jesus.

Fact 10: At $50 a year per Christian, the problem is not a matter of money -- church people in the U.S. can afford $50 a year to reduce the number of child deaths around the world by the end of 2015. The problem is a matter of organization -- how can we get a movement going to challenge church people to give an additional $50 a year through their own church channels to help, in Jesus' name, reduce the number of children under 5 who are dying around the globe?
