SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Oct. 9, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- On October 13th, thousands of Northern California Catholics will come together in San Francisco to attend Mass, witness in the streets, pray the rosary, listen to inspirational speakers, and ask the blessings of God on their communities.

The San Francisco Rosary Rally, reborn in 2011 after a 50-year hiatus, will celebrate its second year on October 13, 2012. Last year's event drew an estimated 1,500 people; this year, with the addition of the Ministry for Spanish Speaking of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, (Pastoral Hispana de Arquidiócesis de San Francisco) even more are expected.

The timeline:

9:00 AM: Welcome by Fr. Moisés Agudo at St. Mary's Cathedral.

9:30 AM: Holy Mass in Spanish at St. Mary's Cathedral.

11:00 AM: Blessing by Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone. Procession from the Cathedral to UN Plaza with statues of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of the Rosary, and the Immaculate Conception.

11:50 AM: Procession arrives at UN Plaza.

12 to 2 PM: Rosary Crusade at UN Plaza.

The Mass, March and Rally are sponsored by the Archdiocese of San Francisco, the Archdiocesan Hispanic Pastoral Council, Legion of Mary, the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Ministry, Knights of Columbus, Ignatius Press and Immaculate Heart Radio. Fr. Lawrence Goode, spiritual director of the San Francisco Legion of Mary will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

The Rosary Crusade traces its roots to the Rosary Crusade of Fr. Patrick Peyton, which drew 550,000 people to Golden Gate Park in 1961. While the event honors the work of Fr. Peyton, Fr. Goode stressed that the 2012 Rosary Crusade is not an exercise in nostalgia. "You know, it was Fr. Peyton who popularized the phrase 'the family that prays together stays together.' His idea is even more relevant today than it was then. We must pray for the strengthening of family life."

The Rally is the Archdiocese's first event in the Year of Faith, promoting the New Evangelization as declared by Pope Benedict. The October 11 date is the 95th Anniversary of the "Miracle of the Sun" at Fatima.
