Christian Newswire/ -- More than 2,500 listeners pledged donations of over $950,000 during Immaculate Heart Radio's quarterly fundraiser -- the listener supported radio outreach relies solely on financial support from listeners to maintain its operations. As an added result of the pledge drive and in partnership with Cross Catholic Outreach, 800 children in Sierra Leone will receive three meals a day for a year.
"It was quite a week," said Doug Sherman, President and Founder of Immaculate Heart Radio. "And one of our best ever pledge drives - not only did we exceed our goal, we've helped Cross Catholic Outreach provide much needed aid to malnourished and starving children in Sierra Leone, a country ravaged by 11 years of civil war and the West Africa Ebola crisis."
Cross Catholic Outreach, will ship non-perishable meals, specifically designed to reverse the effects of chronic malnutrition to Catholic dedicated priests, nuns and lay missionaries who serve devastated parts of West Africa providing food, medical care and water. Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world, ranking #180 out of 187 countries in the world.
