ENUMCLAW, Wash., July 28 /Christian Newswire/ -- Politicians in Hartford, Connecticut recently proposed a Domestic Violence Bill with the intent to expand funding to facilities throughout the state, reports The News Times. If passed, the bill would allow shelters to remain open 24 hours a day, thereby providing much needed assistance to victims and their families.
Author and former victim of abuse, Janice Clark Hayes, addresses the subject of domestic violence in her new book, "Journey of a Conqueror: Overcoming Abuse with Faith and Courage". A dysfunctional relationship that has turned destructive defines the essence of an abusive relationship. An abuser controls; a victim suffers. Breaking free from that control is a conscious and critical choice that every victim faces–and it's not an easy one, says Hayes.
But according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, breaking free from the pain of abuse affects millions of women around the world: "1 out of 3 women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime."
Hayes acknowledges the veil of silence that tends to permeate spousal abuse. "Abuse is something that is seldom talked about and has been hidden for so long that we have a hard time even putting emotional language around it. Too many women are trapped in abusive relationships and believe that they cannot get out."
"Journey of a Conqueror" introduces the five stages for emerging whole and healed from an abusive relationship. Hayes encourages victims to seek emotional and spiritual shelter from God. "It is possible to find healing, to love as God intended, and to discover how to be loved."
Janice currently lives in Georgia where she works as an independent consultant for organizational development and human resource issues. The Hayes enjoy spending time with family, traveling, ministering to others, and photographing God's magnificent creation.
