Pair Releases Christian Apologetics T-Shirts to Try to Bridge the Gap

MACOMB, Mich., Sept. 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- Christian apologist Anthony Horvath has teamed up with his brother, High School senior theology teacher Brian Horvath, to launch a line of T-shirts with an apologetic emphasis. The tandem not only wants to educate Christians about essential Christian teachings, they also want to create apologetic opportunities for those wearing the shirt. The Christian Church continues to under-estimate the intense pressure that Christian youth encounter when first going to college. Churches are failing to educate them on even basic reasons for believing Christianity to be true. Their new T-shirt line is called Apologia315. The name comes from the root Greek word for 'apologetics' which means 'a defense,' and 1 Peter 3:15, which urges Christians to always be prepared to give a reason for what they believe. Their goal is to take a step, even if it is a small one, towards giving Christians, young and old, the tools needed to preserve their own faith, and witness to others.
Brian Horvath explains the rationale for the shirts, "As a high school theology teacher, teaching seniors in particular, I always include an apologetics unit because I know what kinds of challenges will be facing the students when they go to college. I wanted to do something that could prepare them for those challenges and possibly educate the public, too."
The T-shirts have the Apologia315 logo on the front. On the back there are questions like "Did Jesus rise from the dead?" or "Are the NT documents historically reliable?" followed by brief answers. The shirts come with brochures that give the wearer important background material and sources for further investigation so the wearer is equipped to speak intelligently if someone reads their shirt and wants to talk about it.
Both Brian and Anthony feel that the Church needs to be doing everything in its power to equip people with the facts of the faith but contend the Church is coming up well short.
"While we hope that these T-shirts are a good first step," Brian concludes, "They'll work best when integrated into a church's whole educational program where Christian apologetics already is a critical component in the curriculum."
"Unfortunately, not enough churches have such a program," Anthony says. "While that is itself one reason why Christian students are getting creamed out there, many churches want to do something, but don't know what. That is one reason why we have taken the time to include a brochure with every shirt and also why we are making ourselves available for on-site training. Young adults won't feel comfortable wearing the shirts if they feel like they are lambs going out to be slaughtered and pastors and youth leaders don't always feel equipped to handle such issues, either."
