Selected Board Members Include Daughter of Mission Society Founder

NORCROSS, Ga., July 29, 2015 /Christian Newswire/ -- At its recent board meeting, The Mission Society added new board members from two continents and multiple disciplines.

Susie Maclin of Decatur, Georgia, the oldest child of The Mission Society founder H.T. Maclin, is among the new board members.

Having studied both history and library and information science, Maclin spent much of her career managing and creating archives, including work for Phillips Petroleum Company in Oklahoma.

She served as the head of special collections for the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York before returning to the corporate world. She then became the first director of archives and special collections for the American International Group. The Academy of Certified Archivists elected her president while in New York.

New board member Bill Hewitt of Charleston, S.C., served as chair of the board of Polymer Group, a global engineered materials company between 2003 and 2011. He earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Connecticut after completing a baccalaureate engineering degree from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (BS) and the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School (BSEE).

Hewitt has served with various non-profits in Charleston and is an active parishioner at St. Michael's Anglican Church.

Ubolwan Mejudhon of Thailand was once a professor of Buddhist philosophy before her conversion to Christianity in 1971. After studying in New Zealand, Ubolwan earned master and doctorate degrees from Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky.

With her husband, Nantachai Mejudhon founded Muangthai Church in Bangkok, Thailand, along with 10 sister churches, each self-supporting and holding to Wesleyan doctrine.

John Spencer of Bentonville, Va., is a retired radio astronomer who worked at the Naval Research Laboratory after earning a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

He has served in prison ministries, including 13 years with Kairos Prison Ministry, and is on the board of trustees for GraceInside, a chaplain service for Virginia prisons. Further, he was a founding board member and later board chair of Water's Edge Partnership, a ministry to the "invisible people" living in and near the Baltimore inner harbor.

In addition, The Mission Society has added the following staff members:

• Duane Brown is the senior director of church ministry with responsibility for church mobilization that strategically engages local churches in world missions. He manages a growing network of partner churches and organizations who promote The Mission Society.
   
• Nikiya Richard is the field ministry administrator, working to meet the administrative needs of missionaries and the field ministry department. Nikiya’s responsibilities include missionary budget development, tracking pre-field preparation and placement, donor communication, furlough plans, and working cross-departmentally on major projects and events.
   
• Kate Hilderbrandt serves as field ministry innovation manager. She is responsible for designing and implementing new field strategies, helping develop new teams and affinity groups, mentoring, and working with a two-year program for missionaries. Previously, Kate served as coordinator of mobilization and candidacy.
   
• Eunice Cook serves as the receptionist and finance clerk. She is primarily responsible for greeting Mission Society callers and guests, processing donations and accounts payable, and sending out donor receipts. For 45 years, Eunice has served at New Springfield Baptist Church in East Point, Georgia, where she is minister of music.
