HOUSTON, April 15 /Christian Newswire/ -- Renowned Christian author and speaker Michael Frost will be the keynote presenter at "Missional Living for Today's World," a two-day conference hosted by Houston churches Tuesday and Wednesday, May 5 and 6. Mr. Frost will be joined by local pastors Chris Seay, of Ecclesia Houston; Rudy Rasmus, of St. John's United Methodist Church; Dave Peterson, of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church (MDPC); and Jim Herrington, of Mission Houston, as they explore topics related to "Missional" living, our faith communities, our city, and the various ways we struggle to be the real Jesus in the real world.
The conference schedule is as follows:
TUESDAY NIGHT, MAY 5th
"Missional Living": What does this mean to our communities in the current economic conditions?
7:00 to 9:15 PM
Ecclesia Houston, 2115 Taft Street, Houston, Texas 77006
WEDNESDAY LEADERSHIP LUNCHEON, MAY 6th
"Missional Leading": What does look like in the current culture?
11:00 AM to 1:15 PM
St. John's United Methodist Church, Downtown, 2019 Crawford Street (at Gray), Houston, Texas 77002
WEDNESDAY NIGHT, MAY 6th
"Missional Seeding": Can an established mainline church turn into a missional community?
7:00 to 9:00 PM
Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77024
Frost will address issues specific to each of the diverse communities that are hosting his time in Houston. Topics to be covered include: What does it mean to truly be Jesus in the communities and cultures we live in? What radical changes are required of congregations that want to focus on the mission of the Church as opposed to the traditions of the Church? How do we challenge the idea of the domesticated Jesus and truly follow the Jesus portrayed in the Gospels–the Jesus who is "loving, wildly passionate, dangerous, radically merciful and always surprising?"
Frost is Vice Principal of Morling College in Sydney; Founding Director of the Tinsley Institute, a mission study center located at Morling; and the author or editor of ten popular Christian books, the most recent of which are the highly successful and award-winning The Shaping of Things to Come (2003, co-authored with colleague Alan Hirsch), Exiles (2006), and Re:Jesus (2009).
Each event costs $15, or $40 for all three events. Meals are available before each event for $10 each. Visit the registration page at www.frost.mdpc.org for more details. For questions or inquiries, contact Rachel Quan/Mowalla Productions at 713-668-3300 or Rachel@mowalla.com.
