Sessions Review Cash Reserve Benefits, Governance for Churches and Nonprofits

WINCHESTER, Va., June 27, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Churches and parachurch nonprofits can learn responsible fiscal, legal and governance practices during a new round of live, hour-long webinars hosted by the ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability) during the coming quarter.
Registration is open for the next four online/telephone sessions: "Cash Reserves and Liquidity," "3 Core Competencies for God-honoring Church Governance," "Church Law Update" and "3 Core Competencies for Nonprofit Ministry Governance." Each session begins at 1 p.m. EDT.
"With these webinars, ECFA aims to help churches and nonprofits understand essential principles of governance," said Dan Busby, ECFA president. "At the same time, we can also help churches keep apprised of legal issues and learn how to shore up their finances through cash reserves."
The "Cash Reserves and Liquidity" webinar on July 14 will feature Mark L. Jones, vice president and senior banking consultant for Evangelical Christian Credit Union; Jeremy Moser, chief financial officer for Mariners Church in Newport Beach, Calif.; and Jon Roberts, finance and facilities director at Mission Hills Church in Littleton, Colo. They will explain how churches can benefit from building adequate cash reserves to pursue their missions.
Busby will join Steve Macchia, founder and president of Leadership Transformations, Inc., and John Pearson, president of John Pearson Associates, Inc., for a webinar Aug. 23 on "3 Core Competencies for God-honoring Church Governance." They will explain best practices for churches that transcend theological and ecclesiastical distinctives.
Richard Hammar, legal counsel to the Assemblies of God, will lead a "Church Law Update" webinar Sept. 1. Hammar, recognized among the nation's top church attorneys, is also a CPA known for his church legal and tax materials. Early registration is encouraged for this key webinar.
The quarter's last webinar will address "3 Core Competencies for Nonprofit Ministry Governance" on Sept. 23. Busby, Macchia and Pearson will cover how to clarify board and CEO roles, cultivate discernment among board members and top executives, and recruit and engage board members.
Webinar registration is free for ECFA members. For registered users, "Church Law Update" registration is $49; registration for the other webinars is $39 each. A recording of each webinar will be available following the session through the ECFA website at no cost for ECFA members and $29 for nonmembers. Continuing education credits are available for each session.
