ARLINGTON, Virginia, October 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- Three faithful Catholics were arrested at St. Thomas More Cathedral in Arlington, VA for passing out pro-life literature based on the words of. Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue, Joseph Landry, 27 and Brian Sherwood, 33 were arrested at 6pm, Sunday, October 5, 2008 with charges of trespassing.
"It is an outrage that Catholics are arrested for handing out literature promoting the words of our Holy Father, John Paul II, on the sanctity of life." said Joseph Landry.
The group peacefully passed out the pro-life literature for each of the morning masses. The church called the police when the group refused to leave. The police came and were literally unlatching the handcuffs to take the "trespassers" into custody when the pastor hurried out of the Cathedral to stop the arrests from taking place.
The pro-life activists returned to pass out brochures for the 5 PM mass and were met by the police waiting. This time the pastor did not stop the arrests from taking place. The words of John Paul II in Evangelium Vitae clearly leave no room for a faithful Catholic to vote for Obama in this very clear concrete situation. Further, it is perfectly in accordance for the Church to state this.
Please contact Bishop Loverde's office at (703) 841-2500, and ask him to drop the charges against these three men.
