TERRE HAUTE, Indiana, February 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- PrayerShop Publishing announced today the publication of a 400 page textbook entitled Giving Ourselves to Prayer: An Acts 6:4 Primer for Ministry. This first-ever resource textbook for ministerial students focused solely on the topic of prayer, will be available in May. Contributing authors include Henry Blackaby and Dutch Sheets, as well as a wide-range of authors from the academic community and the global prayer movement, such as Elmer Towns, Bingham Hunter, and T.W. Hunt.

"We too often assume that prayer should just be something we instinctively know how to practice as well as teach. As a result, the topic has not received much focus in theological training," said Dan Crawford, Senior Professor and Chair of Prayer Emeritus at Southwestern Baptist Seminary, who compiled the book. "This is a resource that contains a wide variety of prayer-related subjects from writers with varied backgrounds. Some serve in the academic environment while others serve the local church and still others serve through para-church organizations. They all share the common desire to pray more effectively and lead others to do the same. The end-result is a book that provides both a theological and practical perspective on prayer," he concluded.

The book is split into four main divisions: the theological foundation of prayer, the personal passion of prayer, the corporate expression of prayer and the global impact of prayer. Professors from Dallas Theological Seminary, Asbury Theological Seminary, Nyack College, Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary, Concordia Seminary and 23 other seminaries, universities and colleges were contributors to the book. In addition, leaders in the prayer movement, such as Eddie and Alice Smith, Dick Eastman, Daniel Henderson and Alvin VanderGriend and 40 others contributed their practical expertise and insight into teaching and leading prayer.

"This book was originally conceived by America's National Prayer Committee to encourage the teaching of prayer in theological education," said Jonathan Graf, publisher, PrayerShop Publishing. "The content is so rich and so practical that we know many pastors and church leaders will also find it valuable in enhancing their own understanding of prayer and we are pleased to bring it to the market".
