WICHITA, Ks, July 14 /Christian Newswire/ -- Members of the print, television, and radio media attended a press conference and tour of the former Central Women’s Services abortion clinic and were able to view the poor conditions inside the building. Operation Rescue recently purchased the property through a third party, Allison White, the daughter of former Operation Rescue Tactical Director Jeff White, who led the famous pastor’s rescue at Central in 1991.
Operation Rescue President Troy Newman gave opening comments to the press in front of a 20-foot banner that read, “The Gates Of Hell Did NOT Prevail! Redeemed in the name of the Lord by OperationRescue.org.” Brochures documenting the history of pro-life activity at the abortion business and a map of the floor plan were distributed to attendees.
Reporters with their camera crews were taken through each room of the former abortion mill and shown the shoddy conditions, including out of code plumbing and utilities. Considered the highlight of the tour was the sink next to the abortion rooms that featured an industrial garbage disposal where the abortion machine bottles were rinsed and where an anonymous clinic worker told Operation Rescue that aborted baby remains were packaged to await courier pick-up. It is believed that aborted babies were once put down the disposal, although that practice had apparently stopped in recent years.
After the tour, several reporters revisited various locations for a second look.
“They all seemed to understand that this abortion mill needed to close,” said OR spokesperson Cheryl Sullenger. “Most of them seem genuinely shocked by what they saw.”
“There is no way anyone, including the Gov. Sebelius who has opposed any regulation on abortion clinics, can get away with saying Kansas abortion clinics are safe and clean. We have just proved to the world that is not true,” Sullenger said.
It was also revealed that late-term abortionist George R. Tiller, who is currently under Grand Jury investigation in the death of a patient, purchased the assets of Central Women’s Services and absorbed the business into his own, ending some speculation that the abortion mill may try to reopen at another location.
Tiller bought the failing business after Operation Rescue had placed the building under contract and refused an effort by Central to remain as a tenant in the building.
The building, located at 3013 E. Central in Wichita will be open to the public for tours on Friday, July 14, from 11 AM to 7 PM and again on Saturday, July 15, from 10 AM to 4 PM.
