It was the day after 911, Lori Foroozandeh (photo), an American married to an Iranian was told by her husband that they needed to get out of Iran in case the USA retaliated against the Middle East. When Lori and her husband arrived at the Shiraz bus station to take a bus from there to Istanbul then on to the USA, she was not prepared for what came next. Soldiers in cattle type trucks pulled up and put her in handcuffs and blindfolded her, they took her one way and her husband to another location. After a six hour drive Lori arrived at a POW type camp in the hills of Iran. No one told her exactly why she was taken there and then chaos ensued.
For six weeks Lori was beaten, raped and starved along with other prisoners who were told if they had ties to anyone in the USA that was why they were there. After six weeks of a family watching their daughter (who was shackled to Lori) get raped publicly, her brother bribed a guard and Lori and the girl escaped. But she was far from free; she had to endure the politics of an Islamic nation.
And one requirement was that you needed to get your husband's written permission before leaving the country. Lori also had suspicions of her husband being involved in terrorism. There were rumors about 911 before it happened.
Lori didn't know what or where it would happen but she was told that it would coincide with the American distress call of 911. She tried to call home on the 9th, 10th and 11th, but operator stated that NO INTERNATIONAL CALLS were being placed at that time. When Lori finally arrived in the USA, she weighed 70 pounds, had traumatic brain injuries (from being kicked in the head) and most of her teeth had been knocked out. But what really bothered Lori, is that when she finally arrived at the USA embassy in Dubai, UAE, the American Embassy made her sign a non-disclosure agreement before agreeing to fly her home.
