BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C., Oct. 5, 2016 /Christian Newswire/ -- The population of the nation of Lebanon is 4 million, it hosts 2 million refugees of which 1.8+ are Syrian TEMPORARILY DISPLACED PEOPLE under the age of 18.
Heart for Lebanon is celebrating 10 years this year! The celebration will be October 26-30, 2016 with special events in Lebanon and in Western N.C. "Our desire is to share why Lebanon need not be a hot bed for radicalization, if we do not take this opportunity to bring hope, dignity and a new life to TEMPORARILY DISPLACED PEOPLE we will be giving into radical groups. We have an alternative message, one that is being received, one based on love." States Tom Atema, COO/Co-Founder.
Mr. Atema continues by saying "we believe our conversations, money and time need to be helping Syrian, Iraq and poorer Lebanese avoid radicalization, before they relocate. This is a special opportunity in world history, in the most democratic nation in the Near East – and the opportunity will not last forever!"
As part of our 10th Anniversary Celebration we are holding three special events:
- A special gathering of 25 Syrian pastors in Lebanon who are working daily inside Syria. The purpose is to see if there are better ways Heart for Lebanon can support them, and better help Syrian families living in Lebanon.
- We will also be launching our first Capital Campaign for a ministry center in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon. This HOPE Ministry Center - Bekaa is a 54th square foot community center at a cost of 3.8 million USA dollars.
- In Western N.C. We will be holding "A conversation about the Syrian Civil War, its effects on us today and tomorrow and how we should be responding."
Tom spends 10-15 weeks a year in Lebanon, he began his service to Lebanon in 2001. He is available for interviews, and speaking engagements about the Syrian Civil War and its negative results and its positive opportunities. Tom co-founded Heart for Lebanon with Camille Melki who resides in Lebanon.
