LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 20, 2020 /Christian Newswire/ -- Sovereign King Church and Reformation Church of Shelbyville call upon the Louisville Metro Council to cease its effort to protect abortion and silence free speech on public sidewalks. The Council, instead of exploiting the COVID-19 crisis in an abuse of power, ought to lead the city of Louisville in heartfelt repentance acknowledging the just judgment of God.
Louisville has experienced an unprecedented time of upheaval in the past few months. From initial concerns about COVID-19 to economic upheaval caused by its response, the city of Louisville had already been dealt a hard blow this year. The city was then rocked by a police shooting scandal.
Mass protests and riots did a number on the city. Large groups of gun-carrying protesters have marched through the streets past boarded up businesses and stood on the steps of government buildings, threatening to burn down the city if their demands were not met.
Violent crime has ballooned in the last few months. Car theft is up 300% from last year. This year to date, the homicide rate has already surpassed all of 2019's numbers and is looking to double it. Just last week a 3-year-old girl was killed, bringing the number of homicide victims into the 90s.
This number of victims is underreported because each year, the City of Louisville allows over 3000 innocent children to be put to do death on Market Street. Innocent children have their arms and legs ripped off and are discarded, and all the while, prominent politicians in Louisville make a show of their support for "justice."
The Holy Scripture says that God is opposed to murder. Romans 13:4 says that the civil government is to be a terror to evil. The civil government is to punish evildoers especially those who murder. In the Old Testament, God's people were told that if they did not deal with those who slaughtered children in their midst, God would spew them from the land. God judges those who will not protect the helpless when it is in their power to do so. Right now it is clear that God is judging the city of Louisville. Whether it's COVID, economic loss, or riots and other crime, God is dealing with the city. Bloodshed begets bloodshed.
Yet in the midst of this, rather than repenting and turning to God, the Metro Council of Louisville has decided to double down on the protection of abortion. In an abuse of power, the Metro Council is debating instituting a buffer zone in front of the abortion mill in order to take part of the public sidewalk (a place most sacred for free speech) and make it off-limits to certain speech. That is, they want to make it a place "safe" from speech that is opposed to the slaughter of children. To top off their wickedness, the city of Louisville is using COVID- 19 to pass an ordinance that they have not been able to pass before now.
Does the city really need to protect bloodshed while it is experiencing bloodshed? Is now the time that it needs to crack down on truly peaceful protestors? Does the Metro Council think it can shake its fist at God?
Our churches call upon the Council of Louisville to consider the judgments of God. Isaiah 1 says:
"So when you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide My eyes from you; Yes, even though you multiply prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are covered with blood. Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight. Cease to do evil, Learn to do good; Seek justice, Reprove the ruthless, Defend the orphan, Plead for the widow."
We call upon those in authority to reject the buffer zone and instead to work on legislation making Louisville a safety zone for the preborn. We call upon the council to issue a proclamation of repentance and to set aside a day of fasting and prayer that God's judgment may be turned from this city. The Scriptures are full of promises that for those who repent, God is a just and merciful God. Who knows, that if we repent, God may relent and pour out blessings upon the city of Louisville. But if the city of Louisville continues to double down on child murder, God's judgment may have only just begun.
Sovereign King Church and Reformation Church are reformed Presbyterian and Baptist churches in Southern Indiana and Shelbyville with members in the city of Louisville. SKC and RCS routinely have a presence at the EMW Women's Surgical Center (abortion clinic). Their members preach the gospel and offer women resources such as adoption and financial aid as they enter the clinic.
