KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 21, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- Conservative political consultant, Mark Olson, has launched the "Reagan Plan," a strategic and informed effort to legally abolish abortion in America. In 1980, Ronald Reagan announced his support for an Amendment to the Constitution to abolish abortion. Reagan stated, "… firmly committed to the right to life … I hope Congress itself will propose an amendment … as a last resort, I support the right of the people of the United States to call a constitutional convention for the specific purpose of proposing such an amendment."
Abortion exists within the following legal context:
- The Supremacy Clause of the Constitution establishes that federal law and court rulings trump all state constitutions or laws.
- The Supreme Court ruled in Webster v. Reproductive Health Services (1989) that states do not have the right to determine when life begins through "personhood" laws.
- There are over twenty separate Supreme Court decisions that have created abortion-on-demand, not just Roe v. Wade.
The only way to abolish abortion is to amend the U.S. Constitution. Reagan stated, Article V of the Constitution provides that the states can propose federal amendments via, "a Convention for proposing Amendments." The Reagan Plan will achieve the necessary number of pro-life state legislative majorities in order to amend the U.S. Constitution to abolish abortion. President Reagan got to within two states of achieving this, yet pro-life never mobilized behind Reagan's efforts.
Available at www.ReaganPlan.com is a thirty-page paper that addresses conservative critics of an Article V Convention. "Apparently these critics have not actually read the words of the founding fathers. If it was good enough for Ronald Reagan, it is good enough for me," says Olson.
Olson identifies the biggest challenge to moving forward with Reagan's vision is getting Pro-Life on board. Olson admits, "I've had several pro-life leaders communicate to me that the Reagan Plan would work, but that they will not fund it because if abortion ended they would lose their power within the Republican Party. Due to electoral advantages from 2010 redistricting, our window to act on this is quickly closing."
