Woman's battle with MS, trust in God captured in Comfort for the Journey

COLORADO SPRINGS, Jan. 11, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Jane Goebel was a doer. Homemaker, church organist and administrator, and business manager, she gave of herself freely throughout her life. Even when diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Jane continued to serve God and others as long as her failing body allowed.

Yet MS brought increasing physical limitations and losses. Jane went through the stages of grief, struggling with depression, denial, anger, frustration, and fear. In the midst of her pain, though, she held on to her strong belief in God, who gave her grace and comfort to sustain her until the moment in 2009 when she slipped the prison her body had become and went to be with her Savior.

One of Jane's last gifts to others was the devotional book on suffering she penned with friend Kari Dahlin: Comfort for the Journey (Daughters of Destiny). Each short chapter reveals an insight into God's comfort for an aspect of chronic illness, suffering, and loss. Chapters conclude with sentence prayers and Scripture verses infused with hope and spiritual strength.

In Jane's memory, husband Mel Goebel, founder and CEO of Daughters of Destiny ministry, is donating 25 copies of Comfort for the Journey to each nursing home or hospital in the U.S.

Each nursing home and hospital will also receive a DVD that includes a 7-minute personal message taped with Jane in 2007.
