SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Sept. 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Walk for Life Central Coast is an interfaith, pro-life exhibition set to begin at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 24, at the Mission College Prep Gymnasium (corner of Palm and Broad Streets). The ecumenical gathering will include addresses by speakers Bishop Richard Garcia, Gianna Jessen and Rev. Dr. Childress Jr. followed by a walk through downtown San Luis Obispo in a peaceful demonstration of the commitment to human life before returning to the Mission Prep Gym.
The walk will be followed by prayer vigils at various churches and temples in San Luis Obispo, including a Rosary and Holy Mass for Life at 3:00pm at Old Mission San Luis Obispo with Bishop Richard Garcia from the Diocese of Monterey.
The speakers this year include two noteworthy players in today's pro-life cause. Gianna Jessen, an abortion survivor, has spent most of her life traveling the world and telling her story. Her biological mother procured a saline abortion in her 3rd trimester and Gianna was subsequently born premature, weighing only 2 lbs and with Cerebral Palsy. Although she walks with a slight limp, she still competes in marathons, including the London Marathon in April of 2006. Her life has been covered by many major news outlets including BBC News and World Radio, as well as in her biography Gianna- Aborted...and Lived to Tell About It. She has given addresses in England at the House of Commons as well as given her testimony before the Supreme Court in Cahart v. Gonzales.
Reverend Dr. Clenard Childress of Montclair, New Jersey, is a Baptist Minister and the Director of the Life, Education And Resource Network (L.E.A.R.N). He has been decorated with numerous Community Service Awards as well as The Honorary Degree of Doctorate of Divinity by the Mid-Atlantic Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church-USA. In 1998 he founded the Celebration of Life Daycare Center, which provides compassionate care for children from infancy to age five. In 2003 Rev. Childress was appointed to the National Pro-Life Religious Council of Washington DC. His first book, No Shepherd's Cry was published in March of 2006 and was featured on the 700 Club with Pat Roberson.
