New Tuition-Free College Courses for People in Prison

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Oct. 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- Crossroad Bible Institute, a non-profit ministry providing in-depth reentry education to men and women behind bars, announces the launching of two new college-level courses, Christian Worldview I and Christian Worldview II.

The courses are based on Charles Colson and Nancy Pearcey's book, How Now Shall We Live? and consist of 13 lessons each. Challenging students to create a biblical framework for all of life, each lesson requires that students apply their faith in practical situations as they develop a Christian "worldview."

Christian Worldview I and II are offered by The Center for Advanced Studies, the academic and research arm of Crossroad Bible Institute. Recognizing that 85% of incarcerated people will be released, the Center seeks to provide a college-level experience for people in prison, equipping them with the academic skills necessary to succeed in higher education upon their release. And, as Crossroad Bible Institute's president, Dr. David Schuringa explains, "Research has proven that this method of reentry education is enormously successful in reducing recidivism."

Diligent and promising students who have completed courses in CBI's Tier 1 and Tier 2 programs are eligible for further studies with the Center. While there are hundreds of students enrolled in the Center's college-level courses, 50 of these students will be selected to pilot the new courses before they are officially offered to all Center students. Although most CBI students study independently and correspond with a personal instructor, there are also students at CBI's satellite campus in the Newton Correctional Facility in Newton, Iowa who study Center courses with an on-site professor.

All of CBI's courses, including the newly released Christian worldview courses are available for purchase by the general public for use in churches, group Bible studies and individual studies. Please contact CBI if you are interested in learning more about the new curriculum offerings.
