ENUMCLAW, Wash., Mar. 13 /Christian Newswire/ -- When Sheree Bates’ father died at the age of 56, she was devastated, and fell into a deep depression. A central part of her world was now missing. One night she had a dream in which she saw her father. With a lovely smile, and great compassion reflected on his face he told her, “I miss you, Baby, but I’m going to see you again real soon.” That experience marked the end of her crippling depression. Ten years later on the very anniversary of her father’s death, she ministered to a young girl who had also lost her father unexpectedly. These events are the foundation for the novel “Megan’s One Wish.” This book has been written to help young teens have the assurance that no matter what life-altering circumstances they face, God is faithful to bring them through.

When Megan’s father is killed in the line of duty in Iraq, her world crumbles. Not only is Megan facing the pain of losing her dad, she is also suffering from terrifying nightmares. A new fear is thrust upon Megan when she overhears a conversation between her uncle and mom about whether or not they can still afford the house because of the loss of her father’s income. Megan sinks into a deep depression. Then Raphael, who is an angel, appears to Megan in a dream and takes her to a wonderful land of great beauty. There she meets a powerful lion named Alfred. Megan watches in fascination as Alfred changes into the form of a man—Christ Jesus. Jesus explains the reasoning behind his appearance as Alfred. In the Bible Jesus is described as the lion of the tribe of Judah.

Jesus tells Megan that the wounded place in her heart has caused her to despair. He explains that although Satan has stolen her peace, God will give it back to her again. As they walk, he speaks with her about her future. This is a beautiful word picture of how the Lord walks with us, not only on the highest mountains, but through the deepest, darkest valleys. Megan’s perspective is transformed after this defining moment in her life.
