While the book analyzes the spiritual, moral and political collapse of the Western world, Cardinal Sarah also offers answers on what Catholics can do in the face of such evil: to become saints, to be witnesses to the faith, to practice virtue and to cling to hope.
But to acknowledge the current crisis of faith in the modern world, Cardinal Sarah writes that Christians must be able to look at Christ crucified, to be able to see the image of society today in all its depravity reflected in his eyes and not despair. Cardinal Sarah believes Christians are afraid to do this.
