PRINCETON, N.J., May 11 /Christian Newswire/ -- Fellowship in Prayer, a multi-faith Princeton-based nonprofit focused on 'prayer for peace', is marking its 60th Anniversary by hosting a conference June 24-27, 2010 on the campus of Princeton University. PRAYER: An Answer for the 21st Century is a unique gathering of people resourcing spiritual practice within and across religious traditions as empowerment for social change.
'Our world is deeply in need of interfaith cooperation,' says Janet Haag, Fellowship in Prayer's Executive Director, 'we can think of no better way to celebrate 60 years of dedication to our mission than to host a forum to reclaim the religious values that are foundational for peace, justice and global sustainability.' Gustav Niebuhr, Sister Joan Chittister, Zen Master Bernie Glassman, Daisy Kahn, Rabbi Lawrence Hoffman, Dr. Uma Mysorekar, Rev. James Forbes are only a few among the impressive line-up of religious visionaries who will be speaking at the conference.
Workshops will cover topics like Spiritual Practice and Politics, New Perspectives-New Cosmology, Spiritual Foundations of Food Justice, Spiritual Resources for Racial Healing.
Conference attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy a 60th Anniversary Gala which includes a banquet and concert at which Representative Rush Holt will receive the Fellowship In Prayer Luminary award. Salman Ahmad, the founder and lead singer from the hugely successful band Junoon--called 'the U2 of Pakistan,' by the New York Times will headline the concert.
Ahmad, who is also a goodwill ambassador for peace, will share the performance stage with The Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble, the Ed Goldberg Klezmer Band and the Lavender Light Gospel Choir.
