WASHINGTON, June 20 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today President Bush fulfilled his promise to veto the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2007.  Concerned Women for America (CWA) is pleased to work with President Bush to ensure that our tax dollars are not spent on destroying human embryos for experiments.

By appropriating millions of federal dollars to destructive embryonic stem cell research, Congress would force taxpayers to fund experiments that kill embryos and delay real hope and real cures for suffering people.

CWA President Wendy Wright stated, "American taxpayers should not be forced to fund unethical research, just as we should not be forced to fund abortion.  Ethical stem cell research is creating nearly-miraculous results for patients and producing stem cells with embryonic qualities without destroying embryos.  Science is catching up to ethics, proving that human beings should not be destroyed for science or to benefit another."

CWA, a grassroots organization representing about 500,000 women and men, has worked to ensure there are too few votes in the House of Representatives and the Senate to override the President's veto.

Concerned Women for America is the nation's largest public policy women's organization.
